Andrea Gelzer, MD, MS
Healthcare and Managed Care Executive, and Board Director
Andrea Gelzer has 30 years experience in health care. Most recently, Andrea served as SVP medical affairs and corporate chief medical officer for AmeriHealth Caritas, a Medicaid and Medicare managed care organization. For more than a decade, she focused on innovative clinical business models and opportunities to maximize growth and her efforts helped the company propel revenues from $4.6B to more than $16B over the course of her tenure. Prior to AmeriHealth Caritas, Andrea served as Chief Medical Officer for Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan, and in multiple senior roles at Cigna. She also practiced Internal Medicine for 12+ years and built an early accountable care organization and hospitalist service.
A known industry leader, Andrea has been at the forefront of health information exchange development and value-based provider compensation. She is a member of the board of directors of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and an independent director of Paramount Wellness Retreat. She has experience on a variety of influential national and industry committees including the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Committee on Performance Measurement, the Health and Human Service (HHS) Health Care Payment and Learning Network (LAN) Executive Forum, the coordinating committee of the Measures Application Partnership (MAP), the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). She is the past-chairman of the Board of Directors of HSX, HealthShare Exchange, Philadelphia’s health information exchange and also recently served on the board of directors of its spun off, for-profit entity, HSX MarketStreet, as well as the board of directors of Association of Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP).
Andrea also previously served as an independent board member of Cooper Atkins Corporation, a privately held multi-national company and developer of wireless health care temperature management solutions. Andrea earned her undergraduate degree from Tufts University and her doctor of medicine from St. George's University. She received a master’s degree in preventive medicine/administrative medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in clinical informatics.
